Comfort Sage

A member of one of Brant County's earliest pioneer families, Comfort was a teenager when he served in the War of 1812. He was born in New York State in 1796 and came to Upper canada with his family at the turn of the 19th century. He married Susannah Lawrence, the daughter of other early Brant County pioneers, and the couple had at least seven children. Comfort was at the Queenston battle that claimed Gen. Isaac Brock. and was a veteran of the war, receiving an honourable discharge. He died April 5, 1887 at the age of 90. He made headlines recently, when his tombstone was found by Ingersoll homeowners. Click to read the whole story in Brantford's The Expositor newspaper.
