City of Brantford and our Post-Secondary Partners

The plan for the Laurier Brantford campus builds on the heritage character of the City core – an asset that is fundamental to the university’s identity. Laurier Brantford seeks to integrate the university campus with other downtown functions and provide a flexible framework for the future of the campus in an evolving urban environment.

An Integrated Academic District requires the development of:

  • New mixed-use campus buildings, respecting the architectural character of the downtown and providing opportunities for the establishment of uses that are essential to the maintenance of a healthy downtown, such as shops, offices and entertainment and cultural activities.
  • Situating campus buildings so as not to fragment existing downtown uses as they develop over time. Such an approach will result in a distinct campus environment that combines campus, community and academics with downtown life - contributing to a vibrant downtown core that is truly a destination for Laurier and the greater community.
  • New buildings and adaptive reuse of existing buildings should contribute to the cohesion and heritage of the campus as it grows.
